Creating an Online Course or Induction allows Staff and Service Providers to complete courses and inductions on any web-enabled device. Online Courses have three levels by default: Topic, Page and Page Element. A fourth level can be enabled to allow for more complicated Online Courses: Unit, Topic, Page and Page Elements.
To create an Online Course or Online Induction:
- Open kwiklook and login.
- Click the ‘WHS Compliance’ module in the main menu.
- Click the ‘Online Course Designer’ menu item.
- Click the ‘New’ button.
- On the ‘New Online Course > General’ tab, fill out the following items:
- Title – The title of this Online Course.
- Description – A description of the Online Course that can be displayed to the end user.
- Show Description – Enable this if you want to show the ‘Description’ to the end user when they start the Online Course.
- Estimated Duration (hh:mm) – Enter how long it will take to complete this Online Course.
- Pass Method – Choose the appropriate option:
- Completion – The end user needs to finish the entire Online Course to pass.
- Score – The end user needs to gain a percentage score to pass the Online Course. Enter the score as a percentage.
- On the ‘New Online Course > Options’ tab, fill out the following items:
- This course has prerequisites – Enables to you link other Credentials as prerequisites for this Online Course, i.e. a ‘Level 1’ Course/Credential may need to be attained before an end user can start a ‘Level 2’ Online Course.
- Enable Unit Level – This option enables the fourth level called ‘Units’ to allow ‘Topics’ to be divided into separate areas.
- Enable Time Limit – This forces a time limit for the Online Course. If an end user has not finished completing the Online Course in the assigned time limit then the end user is automatically redirected to the ‘Finish’ page. Enter the time limit here.
- Enable Demerits – This allows the possibility for the ‘Pass Method > Score’ to be lowered if the end user answers questions incorrectly.
- Enable Randomised Questions – This changes the structure of the levels to only allow one ‘Page Element’ or the ‘Question’ type per ‘Page’ and randomises the ‘Pages’ when the end user starts the Online Course. The ‘Pages’ are randomised each time the end user starts the Online Course.
- Requires Speakers – Shows a message to the end user when the Online Course is started to alert the end user to turn their computer speakers on.
- Click the ‘Save’ button. Congratulations, you have now created a new Online Course. Next we will add ‘Units’, ‘Topics’, ‘Pages’ and ‘Page Elements’ to this Online Course.
